Canadian power producer Northland Power, in partnership with ORLEN, has completed the installation of all 76 turbines at the 1.1 GW Baltic Power offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea off Poland’s coast.
The project is currently in the commissioning stage and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2026, with expenditures reported to be in line with initial estimates.
Located approximately 20km from the shore, Baltic Power is Poland’s first offshore wind project.
Northland Power reported that more than one third of the turbines are already generating electricity, and the site delivered its first power to Poland’s national grid in July 2026. This was the first offshore wind electricity produced for the country.
When fully operational, the facility is expected to generate around 4 TWh of electricity per year.
The project is underpinned by a 25-year contract for difference mechanism intended to provide a stable revenue stream.
Baltic Power forms a key part of Northland Power’s presence in Poland, where it is also constructing two grid-scale battery energy storage projects with a combined capacity of 300 MW/1.2 GWh.
The company said the initiatives form part of its strategy to support Poland’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
Northland Power president and CEO Christine Healy said: “Installing all 76 turbines at Baltic Power demonstrates Northland’s ability to safely execute complex, large-scale offshore wind projects.
“Since entering Poland in 2021, we remain committed to building the country’s energy future by combining Polish expertise and ingenuity with Northland’s global offshore wind experience.
“Baltic Power demonstrates what can be achieved when local knowledge and international expertise come together to deliver a first-of-its-kind project.”
Northland Power develops and operates offshore wind, onshore renewables, battery storage and natural gas-fired generation.
The company has a stake in 3.6 GW of gross operating capacity, 2.4 GW under construction and an 8 GW development pipeline.
