Hitachi Energy and Ansaldo Energia have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and market integrated power generation and grid solutions, targeting customers seeking to add electricity capacity more quickly as demand rises.
The collaboration will combine Ansaldo Energia’s gas turbine and generator technologies with Hitachi Energy’s expertise in high-voltage equipment, transformers, automation, power electronics and grid system integration. The companies intend to develop solutions for both 50 Hz and 60 Hz markets, including data centres and other large electricity consumers.
The proposed systems would integrate generation with the electrical infrastructure needed to transmit and deliver power to the point of consumption. Potential applications include energy hubs, digital infrastructure and large industrial facilities.
The agreement comes amid growing electricity demand associated with data centre expansion, industrial electrification and transport. In particular, the rapid development of artificial intelligence infrastructure is increasing pressure on utilities and developers to provide reliable power within shorter project timelines.
Hitachi Energy chief executive Andreas Schierenbeck said combining the companies’ capabilities could help customers bring new capacity online and strengthen the resilience of their energy systems.
Ansaldo Energia chief executive Fabrizio Fabbri said the partnership would bring together generation technology and grid infrastructure to address the scale and reliability requirements of emerging industrial and digital applications.
Hitachi Energy also intends to support integrated and autonomous data centre operation through its One Hitachi approach, combining its power solutions with HMAX Data Center.
The memorandum establishes a framework for collaboration, but the companies have not disclosed specific projects, investment commitments, product configurations or delivery schedules. Further technical and commercial details will be needed to establish how the integrated solutions will be deployed.
