• ABB has won contracts valued at around $300 million for the design and construction of two high voltage transmission systems in Brazil with a combined length of close to 1300 km. The order relates to a concession agreement granted by the Federal National Electricity Agency of Brazil to a consortium of power developers, Schahin/Alusa, giving it the right to build, own and operate two power lines in north and northeastern Brazil.
The lines will increase the transmission capacity of the Brazilian national grid system, extending it and improving its reliability. Many components for the 500 kV project will be manufactured at ABB plants in Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais. The company will design, procure and construct all the system components including 500 kV substations and reactive power compensation equipment.
