The two 9.9 MW short-duration Texas Waves storage facilities are fed by E.ON’s 249 MW Pyron and 197 MW Inadale wind farms, both near Roscoe, Texas. The advanced energy storage systems are programmed for multiple applications including rapid response to shifts in demand, power quality and overall grid reliability.
Greensmith provided the design, integration and commissioning of the turnkey systems, which employ the company’s GEMS (Greensmith Energy Management System) software platform for real-time monitoring, integrated control, and system optimisation.
Texas Waves consists of three energy storage systems installed by E.ON and Greensmith Energy, the two Texas projects, plus Iron Horse in Arizona, a solar hybrid constructed for Tucson Electric Power.
Greensmith has also been selected by Origis Energy to provide PV-integrated storage for a 1 MW / 2 MWh community hybrid project in Sterling, MA, USA, which will employ LG Chem batteries and Sungrow inverters.
The system was expected to be fully operational by the end of March 2018. The company will also provide energy storage operation and maintenance services under a 10 year agreement.
Greensmith says it delivered 11 grid-scale system storage projects globally in 2017.
One recent contract is for provision of a GEMS-based integrated energy management system for Graciolica Lda’s microgrid power facility in the Azores, on the island of Graciosa. When completed, the Graciosa Hybrid Renewable Power Plant will enable 1 MW of solar and 4.5 MW of wind power to be supplied to the local electricity grid, reducing the island’s reliance on imported fossil fuels and significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The order, placed by Portuguese project company Graciolica Lda and supported by its majority shareholder, Denmark based Recharge A/S, was booked in December 2017.
