Under the ten year agreement signed at the end of 2017, Wärtsilä Services provides Geita Gold Mining Limited with high reliability in operations and maintenance throughout the entire lifecycle of the gold mine’s 40 MW power plant.

In the case of a breakdown, Wärtsilä says it guarantees immediate repair, securing cost effective power plant operations and uninterrupted electrical supply for the mine.

Geita Gold Mining Limited is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti. Wärtsilä also supports the power plant at Siguiri mine in Guinea, owned by another subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, through a 10-year operations and maintenance agreement.

Tasiast expansion. In late 2017 Wärtsilä reported that it will deliver a 60 MW turnkey power plant to provide electricity for the Phase Two expansion of the Tasiast mine in Mauritania. The contract was placed by Tasiast Mauritanie Ltd, a subsidiary of Kinross Gold Corporation, the Canada-based gold mining company.

The new power plant will employ six Wärtsilä 32TS engines, with commercial operation expected to begin in Q3 2020. Wärtsilä also delivered the engines for the 19 MW power plant serving phase 1b of the Tasiast mine.
