Atlas Energy Solutions has executed a Global Framework Agreement (GFA) with Caterpillar Inc. for approximately 1.4 GW of natural gas generator sets, with orders slated for 2027-2029. Successful rollout would lift Atlas’s total power generation capacity to 2 GW by 2030.
The deal covers power-dense natural gas reciprocating generator units like CG260-16 models for behind-the-meter (BTM) use and G3520 series for both BTM and bridge power roles. Atlas commits to $840m in aggregate purchases against rolling forecasts, while Caterpillar reserves matching production capacity.
“AI infrastructure and manufacturing reshoring are driving unprecedented power demand growth, and grid limitations are pushing industrial customers to seek alternative power solutions through private grid systems,” said John Turner, Atlas president and CEO. He positioned the pact as key to supply certainty amid this shift.
