CHINT and Octopus Energy have agreed a strategic partnership covering renewable energy infrastructure in Europe and virtual power plant (VPP) development in mainland China, broadening cooperation between equipment manufacturing and digital energy services.
The agreements establish a framework for future projects rather than committing either party to specific developments.
The first agreement brings together Astronergy Europe, CHINT Power Systems Poland and CHINT Solar Poland with Octopus Energy to support renewable energy projects. A second agreement links Chint Anneng Digital Power with Octopus Energy Group to explore opportunities in China’s growing VPP market.
Under the renewable energy framework, CHINT will be able to supply photovoltaic modules, inverters, battery energy storage systems, transformers, smart meters, cables and electric vehicle charging equipment. The company may also provide engineering, procurement and construction services where individual project agreements are reached.
The partners say combining CHINT’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities with Octopus Energy’s experience in renewable energy development could streamline project delivery and expand access to integrated clean energy systems.
The second agreement shifts the focus to software-driven grid flexibility. The companies will examine opportunities in distributed energy resource aggregation, demand response and intelligent energy management as China expands the role of flexible electricity resources.

The collaboration reflects increasing convergence between renewable generation, battery storage and digital control systems. As electricity networks incorporate more variable renewable energy, virtual power plants are expected to play a larger role by coordinating distributed assets and providing grid flexibility. For manufacturers and energy service providers alike, partnerships that combine hardware, engineering expertise and software platforms are becoming an increasingly important route to delivering integrated low-carbon energy solutions.
