Iberdrola and DP Energy have announced plans to partner on the construction of a 320 MW hybrid wind and solar power project in South Australia.
The Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park (PAREP) will be one of the largest hybrid renewable energy plants in the southern hemisphere and will comprise 1.6 million solar panels installed on a 5400 ha site as well as 50 wind turbines with 185 m tip heights.
Construction will start in mid-2020, and will take 18 months to build DP Energy said.
DP Energy will be involved all the way through construction, but ultimately Iberdrola will own and operate the project.
“We are delighted to have partnered with Iberdrola on this project,” said DP Energy CEO Simon De Pietro. “It’s exciting that they’ve chosen PAREP for their first investment in Australia and we are enthusiastic to see the project commence construction.
“DP Energy will continue to work with stakeholders and the local community and support Iberdrola through construction and commissioning.”
DP Energy received approval for the project in 2016.
