Egyptian firm EETC has started the process of inviting companies to bid for the construction of 600 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity.
EETC, the country’s transmission company, has issued a request for prequalification (RfP) to local and international companies interested in developing projects west of the Nile in the Minya and Aswan areas.
The projects will be developed under a build, own, operate (BOO) model, with project ownership transferred to the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) after a period of 25 years.
The RfP document states that interested developers must have already completed three projects of at least 100 MW capacity each.
The projects will be a key part of Egypt’s plans to boost renewable energy capacity.
In October 2017 the country attracted $1.8 billion of investment from a number of financial organisations – including the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) – to finance the construction of 1.4 GW of solar power capacity.
