Italy’s Enel is aiming to boost investment and research in clean energy technologies through a memorandum of understanding with China’s Huaneng Group.
Enel and Huaneng have been working together for several years in the fields of distributed generation, clean coal and renewable energy, but their latest agreement is designed to strengthen their partnership.
Under the memorandum, Enel will focus on development of areas such as flue gas purification, carbon capture and storage, pilot project analysis of distributed power generation in urban areas with innovative environmental sustainable technologies, renewable energy generation and regulatory frameworks for emissions trading.
The two companies will also undertake projects designed to enhance the efficiency of existing power plants and to jointly develop new power plant projects.
