Enron is planning to build a 500 MW power plant in Pittsburgh, California. The company has filed for permits to construct the gas-fired installation. Startup is scheduled for 2001.

The plant will be built next to USS Posco, a joint venture steel mill owned by US steel and the South Korean Pohang Iron and Steel Co. Enron intends to sell 15 per cent of the output from the plant to USS Posco. The remainder will be sold to the California Power Exchange or to other end users. California is expected to require 6000 MW of power by 2002, Enron estimates.
