E.ON has announced plans to develop a solar energy storage solution in partnership with Solarwatt GmbH.

The German energy giant says there is huge potential for solar energy storage in Germany and plans to start rolling out a solution for domestic customers "in a few months".

E.ON says that the energy storage devices will be easy to install and are modular in design, allowing for easy capacity expansion in the future. They will enable home owners to store energy generated by solar panels and will come with an energy app that provides information on the production and consumption patterns of the consumer.

"An increasing number of our customers want to become more energy autonomous. Together with Solarwatt we can offer them a complete solution that fits their individual needs," E.ON Management Board member Bernhard Reutersberg said. "We aim to become a leading provider of electricity storage systems in Germany and to continually expand our palette of intelligent solutions for our customers."

Last year Solarwatt launched an awrd-winning electricity storage system called MyReserve. "Our cooperative arrangement with E.ON is an important milestone for Solarwatt," said Solarwatt principal owner Stefan Quandt.

According to E.ON, there are over 1.5 million existing solar arrays in Germany that could benefit from storage devices. It also believes that in a few years, virtually all solar arrays will be sold with a storage device.
