South Africa’s Eskom is to seek a major stake in the soon to be privatised Uganda Electricity Board. Uganda, like South Africa, has decided to break up its utility, leaving transmission in public ownership, but generation and transmission will be privatised by the introduction of long-term concessions. Eskom already has a presence in other African countries, notably Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Uganda, Nigeria, Libya and Mauritius.
