France’s Energy Ministry is planning to launch a tender for the construction of wood-fired cogeneration plants.

The tender will be for a total of 50 MW of capacity per year for three years as well as 10 MW of biogas-fired capacity per year for three years.

The tender will close in early August and project selection will take place before the end of 2016, the Ministry said. It will be open to biomass projects with capacities below 25 MW and biogas plants with capacities below 5 MW.

One-fifth of the biomass tender will be reserved for projects smaller than 3 MW. Proposals will have to meet stringent targets for energy efficiency and will also have to source fuel from sustainable forestry.

Biogas projects should not use food crops, the ministry said.
