China Knowledge reports that Harbin Electric International Co, the main subsidiary of state owned Harbin Electric Corp, has confirmed an agreement with La Corporacion Electrica del Ecuador to start a hydropower project in Ecuador.

Not many details are available yet but Ecuador’s ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy revealed that the project, Minas San Franc, is to have an installed capacity of 275 MW and is expected to cost USD 477 million.

This is not Harbin’s first venture in Ecuador. At the end of December last year, the company signed a contract to start a thermal power project in Ecuador which is designed to contain 12×8 MW diesel engines to give a total installed capacity of 96 MW.
