The first commercially available fuel cell/photovoltaic hybrid power system is providing power at Kirby Cove in California’s Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The system comprises a 2.5 kWe fuel cell, a 9 kWe photovoltaic system, and 9 kWh of battery storage. The fuel cell/photovoltaic system was developed by H Power Corporation and Solar Depot. The development project was funded by the National Park Service, with technical assistance from National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Federal Energy Management Programme.
