Uniper has selected ITM Power as the electrolyser supplier for its Humber H2ub (Green) project, at its Killingholme site in the Humber, UK. The decision follows a comprehensive tender, evaluation and optimisation exercise.

The agreement will initially see ITM provide Uniper with the engineering package for 120 MW of installed electrolyser capacity, consisting of six 20 MW Poseidon units. Following the engineering phase and a successful Uniper financial decision for the project the full supply agreement will be signed.

Uniper’s plans for the proposed Humber H2ub (Green) project include green hydrogen production capability with an installed electrolyser capacity of 120MW and potentially an expansion to 200 MW+. The hydrogen would be used to replace some refinery fuel gas in industrial scale gas fired heaters at the Phillips 66 Ltd Humber Refinery as part of its plans to reduce the refinery’s operational emissions. The project’s scheduled target is to be operational by 2029.

Uniper ran a public consultation on its proposals in November 2024 and in April 2025 the project was announced as one of 27 projects shortlisted in the UK government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) programme.

Jan Taschenberger, Uniper COO New Green Power and Gas, said: “This is a key milestone for the project and we are looking forward to working with ITM Power and further developing the engineering for the project built around the ITM Power 20 MW Poseidon modules.”
