An independent power producer (IPP) in Thailand has placed a turnkey order with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) for a 977 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant.
Khanom Electricity Generating Co. Ltd. (Kegco), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thai IPP Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO), is to sell the energy from the plant to EGAT under a long-term power purchase agreement when it start operating in mid-2016.
The new plant will comprise two trains of 488.5 MW and will be built in Khanom District in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, 700 km south of Bangkok. It will have dual fuel specifications and built around two M701F5 gas turbines.
MHI will manufacture and supply the gas and steam turbines and auxiliary equipment, while Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will be responsible for the generators. Civil and installation work at the construction site will be handled by Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Company Limited, a local construction firm.
After plant inauguration, MHI will provide support in plant maintenance and management based on a long term service agreement agreed between MHI and Kegco.
