Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has completed the construction of Unit 2 at the Tanjung Priok power plant, a natural-gas-fired power generation facility being built on Java Island in Indonesia.
The company says that it has fired up the new power plant at the so-called ‘Jawa-2’ site in simple cycle mode and ahead of schedule. Unit 1 at the site started operating a month earlier, also in simple cycle mode.
Together the two units, when fully operational in combined cycle mode, will add 880 MW to Java’s grid.
PT. PLN (Persero), Indonesia’s state owned electricity provider, awarded a consortium of MHPS, Mitsubishi Corporation and PT. Wasa Mitra Engineering the turnkey contract to build Jawa-2 in 2016. MHPS is responsible for providing two M701F gas turbines as well as two exhaust heat recovery boilers, one steam turbine, and auxiliary equipment. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation supplied the generators.
The plant is expected to start operating in combined cycle mode in 2019.
