Pakistan • primary fuel The military government is looking at ways to reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel oil. It is planning a $600 million investment in natural gas pipelines and infrastructure over the next three years. It has also begun work to exploit the country’s huge hydro power potential. According to the ministry of water and power, it has the potential to produce 38 GWe of new hydro power. Feasibility reports on at least five small dams are due by the end of this year. Studies for a number of small hydroelectric projects in the North West Frontier province, part of Kashmir, with a total capacity of over 3000 MWe, are already complete.
