Neoen has announced plans to build a 30 MW/30 MWh battery energy storage plant in Finland.
The Yllikkälä Power Reserve One project will be the first independent, large-capacity battery to be connected to the Finnish grid and will also be the largest battery storage unit in the Nordic region.
The site, located close to Lappeenranta in the south-east of the country, will help the Fingrid to mitigate frequency variations and will add to Neoen’s renewable energy project developments in the country, the company said. It will also help Finland to integrate renewable energy capacity into its grid.
“Yllikkälä Power Reserve One will make it possible to harness Finland’s substantial wind resources and speed up progress towards a target of being carbon neutral by 2035,” Neoen said in a statement.
