The US state of New York has signed agreements for the construction of 26 renewable energy projects with a total combined capacity of 1383 MW.
The agreements are the result of a solicitation issued in June 2017 and will result in the construction of solar, wind and hydropower projects in eight separate regions.
The largest project in the award is the 340 MW Alle-Cat wind farm, proposed by Invenergy, followed by Calpine Corp’s 122 MW Bluestone wind project. The request for proposals was the first to be issued under New York’s Clean Energy Standard and the contracts awarded will spur more than $3 billion of direct investment over the life of the projects.
New York’s Clean Energy Standard requires 50 per cent of the state’s electricity to be sourced from renewable sources by 2030. Overall, 22 solar projects, one hydropower scheme and three wind farms will be built after this first round.
The projects will be operational by 2022. A total of 88 projects from 30 developers placed bids under the solicitation.
