Poland’s government has drafted a bill to support the development of its offshore wind energy sector.
The Ministry of Energy says that the draft legislation will undergo further review and consultation before it is submitted to parliament.
“It is the result of our intensive work and consultation with many partners, including sector and business representatives. I am convinced that the proposed regulations will significantly contribute to the future creation of a systemically formed offshore wind energy sector in Poland,” said Poland’s Minister of Energy Krzysztof Tchórzewski.
Poland is planning to install 10 GW of offshore wind energy capacity by 2040 and a number of developers are formulating project plans in Poland’s Baltic Sea territory.
The legislation is expected to regulate areas such as support mechanisms, permitting and grid connections, and will enable the developers – which include Equinor, Polenergia, PGE and PKN Orlen – to get projects construction ready.
