Power2X has taken final investment decision (FID) and issued notice to proceed for Djewels, a 20 MW green hydrogen plant in Delfzijl, Groningen, moving the project into construction. The facility is the first Power2X project to reach this stage since its HyCC acquisition earlier this year, and is scheduled to begin operations in 2028.
Djewels will be built at the Chemical Park in Delfzijl and connected to Nobian facilities, with Nobian remaining a strategic partner through construction and operations. The plant is designed to produce about 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen a year for industrial customers in the region, using pressurised alkaline electrolysis supplied by John Cockerill.
Engineering, procurement and construction will be handled by Rely, the Technip Energies and John Cockerill joint venture, which will also provide performance guarantees and delivery certainty. The project has backing from the Province of Groningen, Waddenfonds, the European Union’s Clean Hydrogen Partnership and the Dutch Ministry of KGG, with all permits already in place.
Power2X said the project is intended to prove a more efficient hydrogen production model that could be scaled up later at lower cost and with a smaller footprint.
The company framed Djewels as part of a wider push to build clean industrial assets in Northwest Europe and help position the Netherlands as a hydrogen hub for industry and energy transition.
