Yemen unveiled plans to double generating capacity with a private sector power plant. According to an official from the Public Electricity Corp, the plant will have a capacity of 800 MWe.

The project is to be financed by a consortium of foreign and Yemeni companies. It will be built in two stages, the first stage with a capacity of 500 MWe, which will later be expanded to 800 MWe.

The plant will be at Marib, 200 km from the Yemen capital of Sanaa. The scheme also involves construction of a 400 km transmission line from the plant to the capital.
