The start prices of the auction have been set at RUB5.7 billion ($215 million) and RUB4 billion ($151 million), respectively, with a price increment of RUB50 million ($1.9 million).

The developments follow a 4.4% increase in generation by UES over 2006 to reach 694.8 TWh, up from 665.4 TWh in 2005.

Of that amount, thermal plants generated 568.9 TWh, up 5.2% compared to 2005, while the hydroelectric power plants produced 125.9 TWh, a 1% increase on 2005. In addition, ample reservoir levels in the Angara-Yenisey and Volga-Kama basins saw part of the load shifted from thermal to hydro capacity. As a result, in December, hydro generation increased by 22.8% while the thermal generation declined by 4.5%.
