Amazon and RWE have signed a power purchase agreement for 110 MW from RWE’s German Nordseecluster B offshore wind farm. The PPA builds on the Strategic Framework Agreement signed between the two companies in June 2025, under which RWE supports Amazon’s carbon-free energy goals while Amazon Web Services provides cloud services, AI and data analytics to further RWE’s digital transformation.
The Nordseecluster wind farm is located in the German North Sea, around 50 km north of the German island of Juist, and is a joint project of RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%).
The project is being developed in two phases. Nordseecluster A, with a total capacity of 660 MW, is currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning in early 2027. The second phase will contribute an additional 900 MW with commercial operation scheduled for 2029. With the support of off-takers such as Amazon, the project will be part of the decarbonisation Germany’s electricity system.
The agreement with RWE also supports Amazon’s goal to be net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040. In Germany, Amazon already has six onsite solar projects, and this latest agreement with RWE is Amazon’s fourth large-scale offshore wind PPA in in the country. Combined, these 10 projects have a capacity of more than 790 MW.
