Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has launched the sixth round of the kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), inviting bids for 3 GW of new solar capacity across four projects.
The largest facility in this round will be a 1.4 GW (AC) plant planned near Hima in Najran province. Other projects include a 600 MW (AC) installation near Ad Darb in Jizan province, a further 600 MW (AC) project within Jazan, and a 400 MW (AC) site near Al Sufun in Hail province.
Developers will be required to deliver the plants on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis, with pre-qualification for the tender open until 15 October.
This latest call for bids follows the fifth round of the NREP, announced in February, which allocated 3.7 GW across four large-scale solar projects. Those included the 2 GW Al Sadawi plant in eastern Saudi Arabia, the 1 GW Al Masa’a project in northern Hail province, the 400 MW Al Henakiyah 2 project in Madinah province, and the 300 MW Rabigh 2 facility in Makkah province.
