The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has cancelled a tender for 2 GW of wind energy due to a lack of bids, local media has reported.
A government official told India’s Economic Times that SECI had received only 1.2 GW of bids for the Tranche V tender and that it could not go ahead on that basis.
The Economic Times noted that only four developers – Renew Power, Adani Green Energy, Sprng Energy and Alfanar Energy – had placed bids. The lack of interest in the tender is largely due to concerns over a lack of sufficient transmission infrastructure in India, it reported.
Developers in states such as Gujurat and Tamil Nadu are struggling to get wind energy projects connected to the grid. SECI is trying to resolve these issues with India’s Power Grid Corporation, it said.
SECI told the Economic Times that it was ready to go ahead with the Trance VI tender for 2500 MW of capacity.
