Germany’s E.On Energie plans to implement a new power plant project at its Irsching site in Bavaria, using a newly developed gas turbine plant from Siemens. The 340 MW machine designated (SGT5-8000H) will be the world’s largest and most powerful gas turbine, claim Siemens.
Following testing, the turbine plant will be extended into a combined cycle unit with a capacity of approximately 530 MW and an efficiency of over 60 %. E.On Kraftwerke, a subsidiary of E.On Energie, will take over the plant after a successful trial operation and put it into commercial use.
Siemens will invest approximately €500 million in development and construction of the prototype plant in Irsching.
Dr. Johannes Teyssen, chief executive of E.On Energie said: “With this gas turbine we will tread on new technical ground
