The St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd (SKELEC) has launched a request for proposals (RFP) for the Basseterre Valley 50 MW Solar PV and 30.5 MW/30.5 MWh BESS project, a utility-scale renewable energy scheme in St. Kitts and Nevis. The tender follows Cabinet approval and a 12-month due diligence process, with advisory support from Castalia, ILF Consulting Engineers, GIDE, and Merchant Law.
SKELEC General Manager Clement Williams said the project will strengthen energy security, reduce dependence on imported fuels and help the federation reach its 2030 renewable energy targets under its NDCs.
Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities Konris Maynard described the RFP launch as a defining milestone and said the procurement process was designed to be transparent, competitive and internationally benchmarked.
The Basseterre Valley project is described as the island’s first utility-scale solar-plus-storage tender, and recent reporting says it will provide around 30% of the federation’s energy needs.
The project also fits into the country’s broader effort to modernise its power system and improve resilience through domestic renewable generation and battery storage.
