A US federal court has granted a preliminary injunction allowing construction activity on the Sunrise Wind offshore project to resume while a legal challenge to a federal suspension order continues.

The decision was issued today by the US District Court for the District of Columbia and applies to a 22 December 2025 order from the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) that had halted certain project activities.

The injunction was sought by Sunrise Wind LLC, the project developer and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ørsted A/S, against the BOEM director’s suspension order.

The court’s ruling removes the immediate effect of the suspension, enabling Sunrise Wind to restart impacted work while the lawsuit proceeds. The company said it will resume construction as soon as possible, with safety as its top priority, and will continue engaging with the US Administration to seek a durable resolution.

The project is intended to deliver affordable and reliable electricity to New York State.
