The Unified Energy Systems (UES) of Russia and the US company Enron have signed a ten year strategic alliance to jointly develop projects in Russia, Europe and central Asia. The pact has been sealed with a $55 million deal to upgrade power links.
UES owns and operates Russia’s 57 000 km transmission system as well as the country’s central and regional dispatch centres. It owns 35 power stations which generate nearly 20 per cent of Russia’s electricity.
