Uzbekistan’s government has shortlisted 54 companies interested in bidding to build 200 MW of solar PV capacity.
The companies include Masdar, China Three Gorges, EDPR and Eni, and will be eligible to proceed to the Request for Qualifications stage of the tender to build the solar farm in the Sherabad district of Surkhandarya province in south-east Uzbekistan.
The tender is part of a joint programme with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) that will facilitate the deployment of 1 GW of solar PV capacity in Uzbekistan.
Other qualifying companies include Elsewedy, Fotowatio, ib vogt, Engie and Marubeni.
The winner will be tasked with the design, funding, construction, ownership and operation of the solar farm and will also have to build a 220 kV substation and a transmission line. The National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan (NENU) will be the power off-taker for 25 years.
In February Uzbekistan issued a request for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from private sector companies to develop, finance, build and operate two 200 MW solar PV farms in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions.
