Vestas has announced plans to build a nacelle and hub factory in Scotland to support the UK and European offshore wind pipeline, centred on its V236‑15.0 MW turbine. The investment, exceeding €250 million, is expected to create up to 500 direct skilled jobs and support hundreds more indirect roles across the wider supply chain, as the UK pushes to meet clean power targets and strengthen energy security.
The project follows the record‑breaking AR7 offshore wind auction in January 2026, which generated a strong order book for Vestas in the UK and prompted strategic discussions with the UK and Scottish governments about co‑investment in the facility. The final investment decision is conditional on securing sufficient UK‑based orders under AR7 and AR8; if those conditions are met and planning approvals follow, production could begin around 2029–2030.
The proposed site would also explore opportunities to co‑locate suppliers of other major components, deepening the UK’s offshore wind manufacturing footprint. If built, the plant would become Vestas’ fifth European factory dedicated solely to offshore wind nacelles and blades.
Vestas CEO Henrik Andersen said the UK’s ambitious auctions and policy direction had sent a clear signal to industry and that the facility would deliver long‑term economic benefits to Scotland. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and Scottish Deputy First Minister and Economy Secretary Kate Forbes welcomed the move as a sign of growing confidence in the UK’s offshore wind sector and the potential for high‑value industrial jobs in Scotland.
