The consortium, 40% owned by EDP, 30% by Endesa, 20% by Portuguese wind farm developer Generg and 10% owned by Portugal’s largest industrial conglomerate Sonae additionally comprises Germany wind technology company Enercon.
The concession comprises the installation of 48 wind farms with capacity of between 20 and 25 MW at a broad range of sites throughout Portugal, mostly located in the regions of Minho, Upper Beira, Lower Beira, Extremadura and the Algarve in a project that requires investment of over €1.5 billion between 2006 and 2011.
The project additionally envisages the development of an industrial estate in Viana do Castelo with a planned total surface area of 135,000m2. The facility will consist of the production facilities required to guarantee the integral production of a new Enercon E-82 turbine for the consortium, with a production capacity of 180 wind turbines/year and 600 poles/year.
