ABB and BYD team up on energy storage

8 September 2014

ABB and China-based green-tech firm BYD Co., Ltd, have announced a 'strategic collaboration' to jointly develop new solutions for energy storage.

The collaboration will accelerate the introduction of new solutions for electric vehicle charging and energy storage in off-grid/on-grid solutions for the renewables and marine sectors. It will focus on: grid-connected energy storage, micro-grid applications, solar energy and marine applications.

ABB describes the collaboration as the next step in a successful partnership between the two companies. In 2014, ABB introduced its EV fast chargers in China, supplying DC fast chargers for the new Denza electric car developed by BYD's joint venture with Daimler.

ABB products and technology for grid storage, electric vehicle charging and integrated marine systems, combined with BYD's knowledge in battery technology, can 'broadly address' worldwide energy storage requirements, the company says.
