The order, from China Southern Power Grid Co, Guangzhou, will see Siemens, together with Chinese partners, construct the highest ever power capacity long-distance HVDC link, the company says.
The system, which will supply hydro-power from Yunnan to the rapidly growing industrial region of the Pearl River delta in the province of Guangdong and the megacities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, is scheduled to commence commercial service by mid-2010
Siemens is to design the HVDC system and supply major components including ten 800 kV and ten 600 kV converter transformers as well as DC filters and 800 kV DC components. Siemens will also support its Chinese partners in the design and manufacturing of thyristor valves, converter transformers and control systems. The converter stations operate in bipolar mode with two series-connected, twelve-pulse valve groups per pole, in which light-triggered thyristors are used, improving the reliability and flexibility of the power system.
The order is worth more than €300 million to Siemens.
