Trinasolar has been selected to supply n-type i-TOPCon modules for the 450 MWac Dầu Tiếng 5 Floating Solar and Storage Project in Tây Ninh Province, Vietnam.

The project is being developed by DT5.1 Energy JSC, a member of Xuan Cau Holdings, and is scheduled to enter commercial operation in December 2027. It will use 562 MWdc of floating solar capacity and is expected to produce about 808 GWh of electricity annually for Vietnam’s national power system.

Trinasolar will supply its Vertex N modules, rated at 730–735 W, for the floating array. The company said the modules use a dual-glass, bifacial design, with a bifaciality rating of 80±5%, allowing generation from irradiance reaching the rear of the panels.

The project is being built on a semi-submerged section of Dầu Tiếng Lake, presenting operating conditions different from those of conventional ground-mounted solar plants. Trinasolar said the modules’ low-voltage configuration is intended to support higher string power while reducing the number of modules and associated balance-of-system requirements.

Dầu Tiếng 5 is among the early projects using Vietnam’s Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism. The framework allows eligible renewable generators and large electricity consumers to establish direct electricity purchasing arrangements, supporting the development of a more market-based power system.

For Trinasolar, the contract expands its involvement in Vietnam’s floating solar sector. The company previously supplied modules for the 50.6 MW Dầm Trà Ổ floating solar project in Bình Định Province in 2020.

The larger Dầu Tiếng 5 development illustrates how floating solar is being considered alongside conventional land-based projects as Vietnam expands renewable generation. Using water surfaces can provide additional sites for utility-scale generation where land availability is constrained, although projects must account for the structural, environmental and electrical requirements associated with water-based installations.

Once operational, Dầu Tiếng 5 is expected to add more than 800 GWh of annual renewable generation to Vietnam’s power system.
