Hamon - Innovative, effective and flexible solutions to produce cleaner energy and improve air quality

More than a century of experience in engineering & contracting

The Hamon Group, a world player in engineering & contracting, was founded in 1904. Our scope of supply includes the design, project management, the manufacturing of critical components, the installation and the aftermarket services of cooling systems (cooling towers and air cooled condensers), air quality systems (dust removal, deNox, DeSox) and Waste Heat Recovery Systems. Hamon is active in Power generation, Oil, gas & petrochemical industries and in a more general way, all heavy industries (iron and steel, cement factories, glass factories, incinerators,..). For the Power sector, we have developed specific solutions in air quality and cooling systems. Hamon has a wide installed base with thousands of references in all geographical locations and working conditions.

Our commitment to the Industry

We are dedicated to supplying sustainable solutions for all sectors of the industry, ensuring and developing relationships of trust with our customers, with a view to fostering long-term growth. We are committed to the highest level of excellence and professionalism.

Our systems help you integrate your process in the environment

The activities of the Hamon Group are intrinsically linked to Environmental protection. Primarily through our activities in Air Quality Systems and Heat Recovery as well as our Cooling Systems which have a positive environmental impact.

An accurately designed cooling system will perform better and will enable that the fuel used will produce the maximal yield. Water saving is also an essential factor in the conception of the systems and Hamon continuously searches for new ways of improvement in this field.

Wet cooling

Hamon aims at offering the best economical solution for the lifetime of field erected cooling towers. We have experts in each of the following areas:

  • Thermal, hydraulic and structural design
  • Environmental aspects among which noise and plume abatement
  • Selection of associated equipment (system)
  • Civil work construction and mechanical erection
  • Commissioning, testing and auditing
  • Upgrade, repair and maintenance
  • Dismantling and recycling (including PVC film)

Depending on the application requirements, equipment is designed to the customer-preferred combination of efficiency, long-life expectancy, power saving and environemental local regulations.

Dry cooling

Over the last 20 years, the dry cooling systems for power plants have gained an increasing interest as an alternative to the wet cooling systems. They are likely to be preferred in the following circumstances:

  • Early permission to build a power plant is usually in favor of the Dry cooling for which locations are in greater numbers and permits received earlier
  • Water supply is an issue whether water is not/poorly available or made too expensive or a sensitive subject today or tomorrow;
  • The plume of the wet towers even reduced by use of a hybrid wet cooling tower is not welcome for various reasons.

The ACC design is optimized for each client to provide a guaranteed maximum efficiency depending on the client’s criteria for balancing capital and operating costs. Each section of the ACC is designed for performance, cost and constructability.

Dust removal

In an industry that is changing constantly, Hamon Research-Cottrell is ready to accept the challenges with it. In 1907 Dr. Frederick Gardner Cottrell invented the first industrial Electrostatic Preciptator.  In 1912, he founded the non-profit Research Corporation, and forty years later, Research Corporation gave birth to Research-Cottrell. Since then, we've been an industry leader, supplying over 5,000 ESPs in the last 100 years, and much more dust removal equipment.

Hamon has an installed base of over 5000 ESPs in numerous industries. We can design them to meet the stringent particulate emission with minimal pressure loss and high equipment reliability. Hamon Research-Cottrell has multi-industry experience, supplying dust removal equipment in a variety of industries including Power, Refinery, Mining, Steel, Cement, Fertilizer, Acid Recovery, and more.

Acid gas removal

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions are a primary contributor to acid rains. They are produced by the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, orimulsion, municipal solid waste, automobile tires and many industrial processes such as gasoline refining, cement, paper, glass, steel, iron, and copper production.

Short-term exposures to SO2 can harm the human respiratory system and make breathing difficult. Children, the elderly, and those who suffer from asthma are particularly sensitive to effects of SO2. SO2 emissions that lead to high concentrations of SO2 in the air generally also lead to the formation of other sulfur oxides (SOx). SOx can react with other compounds in the atmosphere to form small particles. These particles contribute to particulate matter (PM) pollution: particles may penetrate deeply into sensitive parts of the lungs and cause additional health problems.

Hamon has an extensive experience in the design, engineering, construction, start-up, operation and maintenance of Flue Gas Desulfurization systems, and offers a comprehensive range of equipment. Hamon FGD systems are treating over 65,000 MWs of power generation capacity in twenty countries and on many more industrial class applications.

DeNOX Systems

We have successfully installed Selective catalytic reduction deNOx plants (SCR) in the most stringent applications like hazardous waste incinerators or diesel engines.

  • Design is compatible with high-dust and tail-end configurations.
  • Catalyst operating range from 165°C, with a thermal regeneration system, to more than 400°C.
  • Efficiency higher than 90% easily achieved.
  • Both ammonia and urea solutions are compatible reagents for our system.

The catalyst replacement management plan can easily be  optimized by our in-house capacity to execute Computerized Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies which improve the distribution of the flue gas mixed with ammonia over the catalyst surface and by the possibility of installing an additional catalyst layer in the future.

The CFD also allows for a reduced pressure drop through the whole system.

When required, the cleaning system, with compressed air or steam sootblowers, is specifically designed so that it has no impact on the integrity of the catalyst modules.

Amongst the possible options, the catalyst can be sized for an additional treatment of Dioxins and a separate layer of catalyst can be added in the reactor for CO reduction.

Multi-pollutants removal

Some utility and industrial processes, such as waste incineration, generate several pollutants, such as SOx, HCl, HF, heavy metals, dioxins and furans as well as NOx. The control of these particles must be accomplished with integrated air quality systems that combine different treatments to provide the highest efficiency of removal in respect of the best available technology. Hamon excels in providing custom made installations to respond to the most severe conditions.

Heat recovery

Hamon Deltak (HDI), part of the Hamon Group since 2011, designs and manufactures Combustion Turbine Heat Recovery Steam Generators and Waste Heat Boilers. Since 1972, HDI has focused on, and has been at the top of the industry, in quality due to our unrivaled engineering and manufacturing experience. With over 1700 units in over 50 countries, HDI has been a world leader in providing heat recovery solutions. Most of the engineers at HDI (52%) have been with the company and providing the “customer first” attitude for over 10 years. Regardless of size or complexity, HDI can provide the best solution to give our customers the lowest lifetime cost on their project. Hamon Deltak provides aftermarket support for urgent replacement parts through a manufacturing facility attached to its headquarters.
