Reliance Power Ltd of India has selected GE to supply the main equipment for what will be India’s largest combined cycle project to date, the 2400 MW expansion of the Sama lkot power plant in Andhra Pradesh.

Under contracts totaling over $750 million, GE will supply six Frame 9FA gas turbines, three D-11 steam turbines, training and long-term services for the natural gas fuelled plant, which is expected to start up in 2012.

J .P. Cha lsani, CEO of Reliance Power said “We are confident of creating a new record for project execution and are hopeful of commissioning the project on a super fast track basis, substantially adding to capacity addition in the 11th plan.”

In addition to supplying equipment, GE also has signed a 15 year Contractual Service Agreement (CSA) for Sama lkot. GE syas it currently is managing CSAs for customers at more than 700 sites covering 2000 turbines worldwide. Benefits to customers include performance guarantees and predictable maintenance costs.
