Advantica Technologies has signed a distribution deal, covering the UK and Ireland, with Capstone Turbine Corp. Under the terms of the deal, Advantica will buy 250 Capstone Microturbine power systems over the course of the next two years.

The microturbine is designed for small combined heat and power applications. It can be fitted in a variety of businesses such as leisure centres, nurseries, hospitals, supermarkets and hospitals that are subject to the UK’s climate change levy in April.

The Microturbine units have a generating capacity of between 30kW and 500kW. The company claims that the payback period is from three to five years. The efficiency of the unit, which can exceed 75 per cent, will make it eligible for an Enhanced Capital Allowance claim against the purchase cost, a spokesman said.

Advantica has installed its first microsystem in a commercial greenhouse. Exhaust from the microturbine is piped directly to the greenhouse where the exhaust heat, combined with slightly elevated carbon dioxide levels, stimulates plant growth.
