Aggreko has expanded its battery energy storage system (BESS) fleet with three new mobile units, including a 120 kW / 120 kWh model and two 1 MW systems with energy capacities of 1.2 MWh and 1.3 MWh.

The new units are designed for temporary and distributed power applications, including data centre construction and sites where grid connections are delayed or have insufficient capacity. They can operate independently, alongside other battery systems or in hybrid configurations with diesel and gas generators and renewable energy sources.

The smallest model is a trailer-mounted 120 kW / 120 kWh system designed for applications requiring low noise and mobility. It includes a 544 A pass-through to support equipment with high motor-starting requirements, such as tower cranes, and can operate in island mode or in parallel with other storage units.

The two larger systems are containerised and trailer-mounted. The 1 MW / 1.2 MWh model supports both grid-forming and grid-following operation and is designed for rapid deployment. The 1 MW / 1.3 MWh version is intended for more energy-intensive loads and includes heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and fire suppression systems.

Aggreko said the systems could be integrated with its generator fleet to reduce generator operating hours, fuel consumption and maintenance requirements by allowing batteries to supply loads when generation is not required.

The new models join the company’s existing battery range, which spans power capacities from 24 kW to 1 MW.
