Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured an order to supply and supervise the erection and commissioning of eight gas turbine generator packages for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Free Zone Enterprise in Nigeria.
The order was awarded following an international competitive bidding process, with equipment production to be carried out at BHEL’s manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
The contract has been placed by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Free Zone Enterprise, part of the Dangote Group, one of Africa’s largest industrial conglomerates with operations spanning refining, petrochemicals, fertilisers, cement and other sectors.
BHEL will manufacture and supply the eight gas turbine generator packages and provide supervision during installation and commissioning at the Nigerian site.
The order strengthens BHEL’s position in the global power equipment market and represents the company’s largest single contract for gas turbine generator packages on a supply-and-supervision basis, both by quantity and value.
The project adds to BHEL’s growing international footprint, particularly in Africa, where the Indian engineering company has delivered power sector projects in countries including Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya, Rwanda, Senegal and Sudan.
The Nigerian award also builds on BHEL’s previous work in the country, including the supply and supervision of erection and commissioning for a 26 MW gas turbine generator package for the Government of Cross River State.
BHEL said the latest contract demonstrates the competitiveness of its gas turbine technology in a market where suppliers face strong international competition.
The company has manufactured gas turbines for more than four decades and has supplied nearly 250 units to customers in India and overseas. More than 20% of those deliveries have been exported, highlighting its experience in international power generation projects.
The Dangote order comes as Nigeria continues to expand industrial infrastructure and strengthen domestic energy capacity. The eight gas turbine generator packages will support the operations of one of Africa’s largest refinery and petrochemical developments, adding further generation capability to a strategically important industrial site.
