A consortium of NRG Energy and Dynergy has closed its purchase of 1218 MWe of power generation capacity in Southern California. The consortium has acquired the plants from San Diego Gas and Electric. Each consortium member owns 50 per cent of the assets of the power plants.
The acquisitions include the 965 MWe Encina plant in Carlsbad and 17 gas turbines with a total generating capacity of 253 MWe throughout the San Diego area. NRG will take charge of operations and plant management, and Dynergy will look after fuel procurement and power marketing.
