A 100 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park will be built in the Dominican Republic after the country’s National Energy Commission (CNE) signed an agreement with Natural World Energy Corporation (NWEC).
Under the agreement, NWEC will invest $110 million to build the 100 MW Villarpando-Azua solar park in the municipality of Las Yayas de Viajama, Villarpando, Azua.
The solar farm will provide a major boost for the Dominican Republic’s installed electricity generating capacity, and will save the country more than $30. Million per year in oil imports, CNE said.
NWEC has six months to start construction of the PV project, and two years to bring it on line. The agreement includes a concession to operate the facility for 25 years, with an option to renew.
Development of the solar farm is in line with the Dominican Republic’s policy of promoting renewable energy and diversifying the country’s electricity generating mix.
