Enel Green Power has commissioned the first phase of what will become its largest wind farm in Italy.

The renewable energy company has brought on line the first 40 MW of the 90 MW Portoscuso wind farm in the Sulcis Iglesiente area of Sardinia.

The new wind farm will eventually feature thirty-nine 2.3 MW wind turbines and is a major part of plans by Enel Green Power to increase its installed wind power capacity on Sardinia to 250 MW. The company said in a statement dated 10 November that it is planning to complete the Portoscuso wind farm “in the coming weeks”.

“This is yet another important step forward in the Enel Green Power programme for organic growth, as set out in the development plans and presented to the market,” said Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power.

Enel Green Power currently operates three wind farms in Sardinia with a combined capacity of 161 MW.
