Enel has won a 25-year supply contract for a 285 MW wind farm in India.
The Italian firm was awarded the contract under the Fourth Tranche of the 2 GW national wind tender issued by the government company Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), and says I will invest over $290 million in the project.
The wind farm will be located in Gujurat state and will be implemented via Enel’s Indian renewable energy subsidiary, BLP Energy Private Limited.
“We are very pleased about this first tender award in India,” said Antonio Cammisecra, Head of Enel’s Global Renewable Energies Division Enel Green Power. “With this award, we have made an important step forward in strengthening and consolidating our presence in a country we consider strategic.
“Looking ahead, we are planning to expand further in India, which will also serve as a platform for growth throughout the overall Asia Pacific region, fully leveraging on the huge availability of renewable resources and growing energy demand of this area.”
The project is due to start operating in the second half of 2019.
