Everllence has signed a contract to supply 24 gas engines with a combined output of 480 MW for a hyperscale data centre in the United States. The engines will provide off-grid power for the facility, allowing it to operate independently of the local electricity network.

Delivery of the 24 × 18V51/60G gas engines is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, with commissioning planned to match the data centre’s phased expansion.

Everllence will provide the power generation equipment, supported by its digital services including PrimeServ Assist and CEON TechBot. The company’s medium-speed engine technology will form the core of the site’s energy system.

The project addresses a growing challenge for large data centre operators in the US: securing sufficient grid capacity quickly enough to support expanding digital infrastructure. Grid connection waiting times can stretch for several years in some regions, creating demand for independent power solutions.

The natural gas-fired engines will be equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems and oxidation catalysts to meet strict emissions requirements. Their modular arrangement, using 24 separate generating units, will allow the operator to increase capacity as computing demand grows while maintaining operational flexibility.

“This contract is one of our most important off-grid data centre projects in the United States and strengthens our position in a rapidly evolving digital infrastructure sector,” he said. “Our medium speed engines offer a valuable alternative that is ideal for data centres without direct grid access.”

Unlike conventional single large-scale generation systems, the modular engine approach allows individual units to be started, stopped or adjusted according to demand. This can improve efficiency during periods of lower load while maintaining the stable power quality required by sensitive computing equipment.

The 51/60 engine family has an installed global capacity of around 8 GW and is used in power generation applications worldwide. The 51/60G model can operate with blends containing up to 25% hydrogen and can reach start-up times of less than five minutes, supporting future flexibility as energy systems evolve.
