Exergy International, a Europe–based specialist provider of Organic Rankine Cycle power generation technology, has launched Exergy USA Inc., a new subsidiary based in Houston’s Energy Corridor. The new company will be the first step in Exergy’s long-term strategy to expand its presence in the United States, supporting both the rapidly growing geothermal sector and the adoption of waste heat recovery technologies across North America.
The announcement coincides with Exergy receiving the 2026 Geothermal Rising Tech Award for its Radial Outflow Gemini Turbine, an innovation developed to meet the larger unit sizes and demanding operating profiles required by the emerging generation of utility-scale geothermal projects.
Together, these milestones position Exergy to help address one of the most critical challenges facing the US energy sector, namely to deliver what it believes are scalable, cost-competitive and reliable clean power solutions to meet rising electricity demand driven by AI infrastructure, data centres and industrial electrification.
“America’s next-generation geothermal industry is transitioning from technical validation to commercial deployment, and this shift requires flexible power conversion technologies and expanded supply chain capacity,” commented Luca Pozzoni, deputy CEO of Exergy International.
Exergy’s Gemini unit is capable of generating up to 60 MW with a single turbine, and represents one of the largest ORC turbine configurations developed for geothermal power generation. Its larger unit size allows developers to reduce the number of turbines required, lowering plant footprint and reducing overall turbine costs compared with traditional multi-turbine configurations. The technology builds on Exergy’s established radial outflow turbine (ROT) design, with more than 60 turbines installed worldwide.
Exergy USA Inc. will provide a local base for business development, customer service and partnerships across North America, close to one of the world’s largest concentrations of energy engineering, advanced manufacturing and oil and gas expertise. As next-generation geothermal increasingly builds on technologies and skills developed in the O&G sector, Houston has become a natural hub for the industry’s next phase of growth.
The new subsidiary represents the first phase of a broader U.S. expansion strategy. Exergy is also planning the gradual localisation of manufacturing for key power plant components, including turbine systems.
